Since 2001, Jonathan’s legal career has included working both as a plaintiff personal injury lawyer and an insurance defence lawyer. Jonathan’s civil litigation practice has been diverse, and included working on insurance-related litigation, personal injury, medical malpractice, long-term disability claims, short-term disability claims, life insurance claims, property damage claims, class actions, and accident benefits claims.

Jonathan has completed the following courses offered by the University of Windsor Faculty of Law through the Stitt Feld Handy Group: Alternative Dispute Resolution (2022) and Advanced Alternative Dispute Resolution (2022).

Throughout his career, Jonathan has been involved in hundreds of mediations as counsel representing plaintiffs and defendants.

Fees

Jonathan is available for full or half day mediations.

Rates for half-day mediations are based on roster mediation rates as set out under Rule 24.1 of the Rules of Civil Procedure. Half day sessions are available in the morning or afternoon of three (3) hours duration. Morning sessions are from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and afternoon sessions are from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Full day sessions are available of seven (7) hours duration, running from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • 2 parties $1,500
  • 3 parties $1,650
  • 4 parties $1,800
  • 5 parties $1,950

Additional Fees

Should additional time be required, an overtime fee of $250 per hour or part thereof will be charged.

The fee charged includes preparation time.

HST is payable on all fees, including cancellations.

The cost of the venue if in person, parking, and catering (if requested) will be an additional charge.  There is no additional charge to proceed by videoconference.

For travel requiring driving outside of Toronto, a per kilometre charge will be applied. Where a flight and/or overnight stay is required, the actual cost of the flight and/or hotel will be charged.

Any questions or concerns regarding fees, disbursements or charges should be addressed at the time of booking.

Cancellation Policy

A mediation cancelled more than thirty (30) days before the scheduled date does not attract a cancellation fee.

A cancellation within thirty (30) days but more than fourteen (14) days before the scheduled mediation will be billed as follows:

  • 1/2 day $300 plus HST
  • full day $750 plus HST

Cancellation within fourteen (14) days of the scheduled mediation will be billed as follows:

  • 1/2 day $600 plus HST
  • full day $1,500 plus HST

If the cancelled mediation date can be filled with another matter, no cancellation fee will be billed.

Any charges that may apply for cancellations of a facility, flight or hotel (depending on the disbursements required) may also apply to cancellations depending on the timing of the cancellation and the policies of the facility.

Any request for cancellation must be in writing.
