Which of your cases makes you proudest of the result?

I am always proud when a case is resolved without my client having to pay any portion of the settlement/judgement. When a client and I decide to take the position that an insured is not liable for a loss, it is always rewarding when the desired – and proper – result is reached.

What do you think the most important factor is in resolving a file?

The interests of the other parties need to be understood. For a matter to settle, frank discussions with the opposing lawyers should occur to fully understand their client’s interests.

What’s the most valuable lesson that your professional experience has taught you?

The importance of teamwork. I view my relationship with my clients as a partnership. Input from clients is not only helpful in understanding their desired results, but allows us to work together to strategize the proper plan of action to achieve these results.

Background

Joseph has been practising insurance defence with members of this firm since March 2017. He brings experience representing clients at the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice.

Prior to joining the firm, Joseph worked at a boutique insurance defence firm in downtown Toronto.

He articled with the Toronto Transit Commission and then was called to the Bar in Ontario in 2013. Joseph graduated with a B.A. (Hon) from McMaster University in 2009 and with a J.D. from the University of Western Ontario in 2012. During his time in law school, he served as team leader for Pro Bono Students Canada and student supervisor for Community Legal Services.

Joseph belongs to the Canadian Bar Association, Toronto Lawyer’s Association, and The Advocates’ Society.
