Jillian Beaulieu, lawyer, Marta Watson LLP

Which of your cases makes you proudest of the result?

Any time I resolve a file to my client’s satisfaction I feel a sense of accomplishment; this can include anything from a simple discussion with counsel, up to and including a jury verdict at trial.

What do you think the most important factor is in resolving a file?

Information – having as much of it as possible is key to understanding the positions and motivations of the people involved. Once these are fully understood, progress can be made toward resolution.

What’s the most valuable lesson that your professional experience has taught you?

Be prepared. There is simply no substitute for putting in the time and the work on a file. Only then can you expect to move forward with positive results.

Jillian has an exclusive practice in insurance defence litigation, including automobile insurance (tort, accident benefits and priority disputes), disability insurance, property claims, subrogation, coverage opinions and occupiers’ liability.

She has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court (civil, bankruptcy), the Ontario Divisional Court, the Ontario Provincial Court, the Small Claims Court, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, the License Appeal Tribunal, the Social Benefits Tribunal, and the Landlord and Tenant Board.
